30 years in health, fitness & mentorship

From Fitness Town to CrossFit BC, Dai Manuel has spent 30 years helping people build healthier lives. MERGE brings that experience to gym and studio owners.
Source: Wodify, CrossFit BC. Members counted only if they attended at least once in the month on a paid plan or pack. Retention covers recurring monthly memberships. January 2025 to September 2026. Marketing spend is from our own records.
For most of 2025, CrossFit BC looked like a lot of established boxes. One program, a loyal base, and membership flat at 130 to 140 for eight straight months.
In summer 2025 we launched HYROX as a separate coaching program. We didn't force it into the monthly membership model. HYROX athletes train toward race dates, so we sold it the way they buy: class packs and 3-month commitments around the race calendar. A good share kept training year round anyway, because it's a strong conditioning program in its own right.
Members on packs training each month went from about a dozen to over a hundred. HYROX revenue grew 3.4 times. The core CrossFit membership kept growing alongside it, from 112 to 196 people training each month.
No new building, no ad spend. A second product, priced to fit how its customers actually train.

Turn the people already walking through your door into members, with a follow-up system a two-person team can actually run.
Hire, train and keep coaches who build community, not just run classes.

THE EXPERIENCE BEHIND MERGE
Health, fitness, mentorship and modeling have been part of Dai's work for three decades. Today, that experience shapes how MERGE helps owners build a gym people want to belong to.

As a former COO and partner at Fitness Town, Dai worked on the business side of fitness. That experience informs the operational questions we ask owners today.

Dai owns CrossFit BC with his wife Christie. Real members, real coaches and the daily work of running a gym keep our advice grounded.

Everything we advise on gets tested in our gym first. We help owners turn that practical experience into better retention, follow-up, coaching and operations.
